NAME
mpeg3play - MPEG layer 2 and layer 3 audio player/decoder
for Unix (version 0.9.6)
SYNOPSIS
mpeg3play [-v] [-h] [-f] [-o outfile.aiff] filename
AVAILABILITY
mpeg3play was mainly written for Solaris/SPARC, but version 0.9.6 can be
compiled to run on the following systems: Solaris/SPARC, Solaris/x86,
SunOS 4.x, Linux, HPUX, Amiga, IBM AIX, FreeBSD.
DESCRIPTION
mpeg3play is an MPEG layer 2 and layer 3 audio player.
It normally uses the audio device for playback, but can also decode
the MPEG input bitstream to an AIFF file if an output file is specified
using the -o option.
To run mpeg3play, simply type
-
mpeg3play file.mp3
to play layer 3 audio files or
-
mpeg3play file.mp2
for layer 2 files.
Only 16-bit (CD-quality) audio devices are currently supported.
OPTIONS
- -v
-
Enable verbose mode to display bitstream information.
- -h
-
Display help information for the program.
- -f
-
Fork off a new player and exit. This option is for usage
as a Netscape helper application.
- -o outfile.aiff
-
Write an AIFF output PCM sound file.
- -r
-
Enable writing of a raw PCM sound file (only available
in the Amiga version).
BUGS
Syncword dectection is crude, which can sometimes make mpeg3play
lose input data, and sometimes refuse to play certain input files.
